A Bladen County resident went for an unplanned swim on Monday morning on Mercer Mill Road about one mile from the Big Blue Store after crashing her car into a creek.

“I was traveling on Mercer Mill Road towards Elizabethtown,” said Shaquandra McRae of Clarkton.

McRae said as she traveled along Mercer Mill Road, she encountered a car that traveled into her lane. McRae said she took action to avoid the car and her Plymouth Neon ended up submerged in the creek.

“I kicked the door open and got and swam to shore,” said McRae.

No injuries were reported.

NC Highway Patrol Trooper Townsend said that the incident is under investigation.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department and Bladen County EMS responded to the scene.
