Folks who enjoy a challenging game of Texas Hold’em might want to brush up on their skills before Saturday, January 28. That’s date when Bladen’s Bloomin’ Agri-Industrial and the Committee of 100 will hold a joint fundraiser called “Casino Night” at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for Casino Night cost $50 each and can be purchased at Cape Fear Vineyard or from the Bladen County Economic Development Office.

Bladen County Economic Development Director and Bladen’s Bloomin’ Executive Director Chuck Heustess said that pre-recession, the membership reached a peak of 230 members and post-recession, the membership is about 100 members. He added that the groups are also trying to attract the younger generation to join. Heustess said the Casino Night tends to appeal a lot of different ages.

“It should be a fun night for everyone,” said Heustess. He said that anyone who spends $100 on tickets will receive a free membership into the Committee of 100.

Heustess said the way it works is a Casino gaming company will set up 8 black jack tables, 2 Texas Hold’Em tables, 2 Roulette games, and one craps table and a Money Wheel. You will exchange your tickets for poker chips that are used to play to games. At 10 p.m. the games will close and you will exchange the chips you have for raffle tickets for prizes from local merchants, according to Heustess. He said some of the prizes include gift cards from Leinwands and Fisher’s Mens and Ladies Shop, an AR 15 rifle supplied by Del-Ton, and M H Marine has offered to detail up to a 25 foot boat.

Heustess said this a chance for Bladen County residents to support economic development. Some future plans include such things as constructing a speculative building. He said that one building is under consideration for the Bladenboro Industrial Park that measures 8,100 square feet and an incubator building that measures 14,000 square feet is under consideration for the Elizabethtown Industrial Park. Both buildings are in the budgeting phase, said Heustess.
