Hospital1In 1993, Karen Gentry came to Bladen County Hospital as a staff pharmacist. She was promoted to the Director of Pharmacy in 1996. She has worked to develop a great pharmacy team, whose main role is to promote the safe and effective use of medication.

They do this by working with the healthcare team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and support staff to ensure the selection of the best medication and the correct dose for the proper duration. Pharmacists are also monitoring and preventing side effects and drug interactions by adjusting medication doses for certain medications based upon the patient’s renal function.

The pharmacist also offers drug therapy consults to healthcare professionals.

Karen also coordinates the Patient Care Committee, which is an interdisciplinary committee that meets monthly to work on policies, protocols and processes that will assist in delivering quality patient care.

Karen and her family live at White Lake. She spends most of her time keeping up with her kids at baseball games, soccer games and dance competitions.
