Staff report
As 2024 draws to a close, the Lumber River United Way (LRUW) is celebrating a year of remarkable progress in supporting vulnerable communities across Bladen, Dillon, Hoke, and Robeson Counties. Through the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers, the organization has made significant strides in addressing critical needs and improving lives. However, the work isn’t done—there’s still time to make an impact this year.
A Call to Action
LRUW is urging community members to help make 2025 just as successful by donating before December 31. Contributions support fifteen partner agencies and United Way programming, ensuring vital services reach those who need them most. Every donation counts in creating opportunities and strengthening the safety net for local families.
Join the Campaign
The 2024 Campaign is still underway, offering community members an exciting way to give back. Fair Share donors, who pledge one hour’s pay per month, have the chance to win $5,000, courtesy of Peterson Toyota. This initiative has inspired individuals to contribute meaningfully while standing a chance to be rewarded for their generosity.
Exciting Events Ahead
Looking to the future, the 2025 Lucky Duck Derby promises to bring the community together for a good cause. Scheduled for March 8 during the Rumba on the Lumber Festival, this beloved event supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which promotes early childhood literacy. Ducks can be adopted for $20 each or as part of a Quack Pack (six for $100) through board members, staff, mail, or online. These tickets also make perfect stocking stuffers for the holiday season.
Opportunities to Lead
LRUW is searching for its next Executive Director to lead the organization into a bright future. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community impact, fundraising, and collaborative problem-solving. For those who want to make a difference at the helm of a vital nonprofit, this is the chance to drive meaningful change in the region.
Giving Beyond the Holidays
In addition to year-end giving, LRUW is also raising funds for the Bladen and Robeson County Empty Stocking Funds, ensuring no child goes without during the holiday season. These initiatives highlight the organization’s commitment to serving families in need year-round.
As LRUW reflects on the accomplishments of 2024, it is clear that the collective efforts of the community have made a tangible difference. By continuing to work together, 2025 holds the promise of even greater success and stronger communities across the region.
