Cape Fear Farmer's Market hosts vendors and crafts3

Bladen County residents know about the Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary in Pink Hill. The non-profit has educated school children and residence in Elizabethtown for a few years now about the birds they are committed to and now the charity has received a big check from a well known celebrity.

Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary (CFPS) was awarded a grant from Bob Barker’s foundation for over $3,000 according to Ces Erdman, founder of the non-profit.

The letter Erdman received from the celebrity’s foundation stated, “DJ & T Foundation is authorized to fund grants to animal welfare organizations that its Board of Directors determines are doing outstanding work to enhance the lives, rights, and well-being of the animal population.”

CFPS rescues, rehabilitates, and cares for parrots who are unwanted, abused, neglected, or whose owners can no longer care for them. CFPS is committed to providing a permanent refuge and a lifelong, healthy habitat for these parrots according to Erdman.

“I’m so excited! 2016 has been an amazing year for us. As of today, CFPS has raised $27,544.80 this year. This is a 58% increase from 2015. A special thank you to Annie Cheatham, our amazing grant writer, who made this grant possible!” Erdman said about the donation.

The vision of the non-profit to build large scale aviaries on land in southeastern North Carolina where parrots in residence can live out their natural lives in environments where they can fly and socialize with other birds.
