Center Road is re-opened to traffic as of Monday afternoon, according to NC Department of Transportation Bladen County Engineer Kenneth Clark.
He said that DOT crews had begun the replacement of the pipe on Center Road just south of Berry Lewis Road, but Clark said water intrusion was too rapid so crews chose to repair the pipe instead.
“Instead, we patched the joint that failed so that we can get the road re-opened to traffic,” said Clark.
DOT does plan to close this section of Center Road at a later date, most likely in the spring, to install a permanent solution to the problem, said Clark.
