The Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s newly formed Chamber Ambassador Committee met on Tuesday morning at the Cape Fear Farmers market and discussed various ways to draw new members including the possibility of rebranding the Chamber.

The discussion of rebranding the Chamber came about after Ambassador Co-chairman Erin Smith presented a survey for the committee to consider approving.  The survey was created by the Chamber Board of Directors and included a question regarding rebranding of the Chamber as a county-wide Chamber of Commerce which was omitted. The question and whether or not to include it, led to a discussion of branding.

There are some advantages to a county-wide Chamber of Commerce including increased membership, building new and better relationships between businesses and communities, and coordination of events.

The Ambassador Board voted 7-0 to keep the question on the survey and send the survey back to the Board of Directors.

The recruitment of new Ambassadors was also discussed. It was decided to attempt to recruit new Ambassadors as needed rather than waiting for the March recruiting event. Two potential Ambassador candidates were mentioned –Jackson Greene and Jake Suggs. The group voted unanimously to recruit new Ambassadors as needed and to contact Greene and Suggs about possibly joining the Ambassador program.

The committee also discussed various fundraisers and events the Ambassador Committee could host. The committee voted unanimously to pursue planning a Pancake Breakfast to be hosted at Goldston’s Beach and a Halloween party/Trunk-or-Treat event potentially to be hosted at Cape Fear Vineyard.  Both events will be looked into more closely in the near future.

The group also discussed creating some type of calendar of events or some type of virtual site whereby events and fundraisers throughout the county could be posted for the public to view. Also, a discussion took place on how best to draw new members to the Chamber.

There was also lengthy discussion as to what the exact role of the Ambassador Committee should be with regards to the Chamber.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, at 8 a.m. at the Cape Fear Farmers Market.
