On November 19, 2024, at 8:00 AM, the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will host its Member Breakfast featuring guest speaker Ben Jones, a Landscape Architect and Environmental Planner with the non-profit Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST).
North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail stretches 1,175 miles, connecting the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. Along this diverse route, hikers encounter mountain vistas, coastal swamps, historic towns, and miles of pristine seashore. Of the total trail, 725 miles are on established pathways, while the rest utilizes connecting backroads and an optional paddle route.
Ben Jones, originally from Hendersonville and now based in Cary, NC, is dedicated to expanding the MST, particularly in Eastern North Carolina. With expertise in environmental studies, horticultural science, and design, he focuses on creating recreational opportunities and preserving North Carolina’s unique landscapes.
