White Lake Water Festivial

By Erin Smith

White Lake Water FestivialThe Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking former Ski Heels members and members of the 1978 White Lake Water Festival Committee. This year will mark the 40th anniversary of the White Lake Water Festival and the Chamber is preparing to mark the occasion.

“I am looking for individuals who were involved with the festival committee in 1978,” said Chamber Executive Director Dawn Maynard.

The current Water Festival Committee is searching for any copies of the logo from the 1978 White Lake Water Festival. Maynard asks if you have a copy of the logo to contact her office.

She said the Water Festival Committee is also working to put together a water show for this year’s festival. Maynard said the show will depict the evolution of water sports on White Lake. She itemized a few areas where skiing has evolved on the lake including water skiing with two skis, Slalom skiing, trick skiing, wake boarding, knee boards, and more. The water show will be called the D. C. Faircloth Water Sport Show Evolution in honor of Mr. Faircloth, who served as the main driver of the boat for the Ski Heels.

Maynard said several years ago there was group called the Ski Heels who performed on White Lake during each Water Festival. She said the Chamber is looking for former members of this group to assist with the water show.

Also, past White Lake Water Festival Queens are also invited to contact the Chamber. Maynard said while the committee is not reviving the former pageant, former Queens are invited to a Meet and Greet to be held on Friday evening of the Water Festival.

Maynard can be reached by calling 910-874-0285 or by email at tourism28337@embarqmail.com.
