The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and heard about plans for upcoming changes to the NC 41 and NC 410 intersection. Drew Cox, District Engineer with the NC Department of Transportation, told the board the new project is needed due to safety reasons.

Cox said the intersection came up for study and was presented as a project because of the number of accidents which take place there. He told the board the intersection scored high and is slated to have a rural high speed round-about installed. Cox the project is funded with what DOT refers to as spot safety funding which is set aside for improvements to be made due to safety issues.

Cox said other locations throughout North Carolina that have had the round-about a installed have experienced a 75 to 85 percent reduction in crashes.

Cox told the board that until the round-about can be installed, DOT will implement a four-way stop with the approval of the board. He said DOT normally requests that there be a show of support from the governing  body. The board voted in support of the measure.
