Long-time East Bladen trainer Chase Lancaster will step into the dugout as a coach this season and will lead the Lady Eagle softball team.

Lancaster, a Bladen Community College graduate and a 15-year veteran with Bladen County Emergency Services, will take over for Coach Patty Evers who has directed the Lady Eagles for the past five seasons in her second stint at the helm of the East Bladen softball team.

“I have been around travel ball and recreation softball and just fell in love with the game,” said Lancaster. “I just felt like it was time to step up and take the job.

“We have some good freshmen coming in who can contribute, and some seniors who provide a good foundation. Coach Evers left the program in good shape, and I will have a lot of help from Chuck Heustess as my assistant coach.”

Lancaster is excited to get started but he will be delayed in getting some of his players as seven of them are on the Lady Eagle basketball team that starts their state play-off run Tuesday night.

East Bladen will open the season on February 28th at defending Three Rivers Conference tri-champion Whiteville.
