Following increased and overwhelming concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the Bladen County DSS Child Welfare Unit’s annual Child Abuse Awareness Day, scheduled for April 25, 2020, has been cancelled.

Sheila Berkeley, Child Protective Social Work Supervisor, stated, ”We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our community; however, we feel this is the right decision based on the information we have today regarding this pandemic.  As much as we would like to carry on with the event, the health, safety and security of our community is of upmost importance to us.  The Bladen County community can rest assured we are determined to continue to work together to ensure the Child Abuse Awareness Day returns in 2021.”

The Child Abuse Awareness activities at the courthouse have been cancelled, however, the pinwheel contest will carry on.  Pinwheel e-mails need to be sent to sberkeley@bladenco.org by April 23rd.

“The winner for the best pinwheel garden/display contest will be chosen and announced on April 24, 2020.  There will be a first, second, and third place winner.  Thank you in advance for your participation and cooperation.” Berkeley stated.
