Bladen County residents turned out to start their Christmas shopping early on Friday at the Powell-Melvin Agricultural Extension Office in Elizabethtown. The well attended event offered all manner of crafts including homemade preserves, handcrafted jewelry, handmade cutting boards and handmade ornaments to please everyone on your shopping list.

Dorothy Barnes said she enjoyed shopping and the lunch was delicious. She also was able to get an early start on her Christmas shopping list.

Shirley Hough of Elizabethtown also stopped in to shop and talk with friends. Ms. Hough said, “I enjoy getting out and seeing people I don’t normally get to see.”

The event is hosted by the Extension Community Association (ECA) Ladies and serves as a  fundraiser for two scholarships which are awarded to high school seniors each year. Judy Elkins, ECA President, said this is the seventh year for Christmas in July.  She said each year there are a variety of vendors each year that offer all manner of items.

The lunch consisted of salads including chicken salad, pasta salad, fruit salad and tossed salad complete with breadsticks and tea.
