An iconic Elizabethtown restaurant is now back in business. Folks gathered at the City Sandwich Shop on Thursday morning to celebrate the restaurant’s re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Elizabethtown Mayor Sylvia Campbell welcomed the opening of the restaurant and said the town is pleased to have another restaurant in its midst.

Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce President Charlotte Smith echoed the mayor’s sentiments and welcomed the new owners.

The restaurant, once owned by former Elizabethtown Police Chief Charles Taylor, has been a mainstay on S. Poplar Street for a number of years. The restaurant is located across from the Bladen County Courthouse and is now operated by James Leech of White Lake.

The restaurant features features an updated interior and a new menu. The menu includes such items as Reuben sandwiches, a Chicken Bacon Ranch wrap sandwich, a selection of salads, hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, and other wrap sandwiches.

The menu also features breakfast plates including a selection of pancakes, eggs, grits, and toast as well as fresh baked muffins, breads, smoothies, hot and cold coffee drinks, and frappes.

Leech attended Johnson and Wells University’s culinary school and then spent 7 months in Italy training as a chef.
