City Sandwich Shop and Coffee in Elizabethtown appears to have closed its doors. A sign currently displayed in the window indicates the restaurant is closed due to a family emergency and does not indicate when or if the restaurant will re-open.
The restaurant opened under the stewardship of James Leach and a ribbon cutting was held in March. At that time, Leach was hopeful to resurrect some of the former success of the iconic restaurant.
During the brief time it was open, the restaurant has hosted a Karoke night, offered live music, and featured evening meals.
The City Sandwich Shop was once owned and operated by Charles Taylor. Under Taylor’s management the restaurant featured a cafeteria-style serving line and Taylor would regale customers with stories about life in Bladen County.
