An early morning fire on Saturday has claimed the house which served as the Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball Haunted House. The house located on NC 211 near Abbottsburg was a total loss, according to Rusty Marsh with the Clarkton Fire Department.

Frankie Burney, District 2 Director of Dixie Youth Baseball, said he received a telephone call notifying him of the fire at 6 a.m.

The well attended event is a fall favorite for many people in Bladen and surrounding counties. Burney said those who attend the event often comment about the event “being the best haunted house around here.” He explained the haunted house is Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball’s largest fundraiser. Burney confirmed the group has lost all the equipment and costumes used in the haunted house. The equipment included stereo equipment, all the props, a fog machine and the costumes.

“We (Clarkton Dixie Youth Baseball) have permission to use the house year after year,” said Burney. He said that is the reason everything related to the haunted house was stored there.

For the haunted house to continue, Burney said one immediate need is a location. He said the location needs to be one which is unoccupied. Anyone interested in providing a location can contact Graham Burney or Frankie Burney for more details regarding the haunted house. Burney said any help anyone is willing to offer is appreciated.
