ELIZABETHTOWN — With the Race for Clarkton Town Commissioner race still too close to call between Jimmy Hudson Jr. And Lawrence McDougald , the Bladen County Board of Elections spent the day auditing the results.

Board of Elections Director Cynthia Shaw said that there were about five provisional votes that will need to be verified.

Once those provisional ballots are verified and counted, it will be determined if a tie remains in Clarkton.

In the event of a tie, the NC General Statute provides for a method to break the tie. According to NC General Statute 163-291 states that if there is a tie, the board of elections shall determine the winner by lot. The method chosen varies from county to county.

If a tie is determined, Shaw said that a coin toss potentially could be used to break the tie.
