Clint_AllenHICKORY- Bladenboro native Clint Allen batted 4-7 with 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in Saturday as his Coker College Cobras split a double-header with Lenoir Rhyne winning the second game 15-6 after dropping the opener 22-9.

In the opener, Allen drew a second inning walk then beat out an infield hit in the fourth inning.

A ten-run fourth inning gave the Bears an 11-0 lead. An 8-run seventh inning pushed the lead to 22-5, before the Cobras answered with 4 runs in the ninth Allen belted a single to right field to drive in Thomas Lopez with the final Coker run.

Allen led off the second inning of the nightcap and raced home on Colton Henthorne’s double with the first run of a 4-run inning that gave the Cobras a 6-0 lead.

The West Bladen grad laced a single to left field in the fourth inning that loaded the bases and eventually dashed home on a Henthorne single as the Coker lead grew to 11-0.

Allen was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning then legged out a bunt single in the seventh inning. The junior leftfielder sprinted home on Will Winslow’s single as the Cobras tacked on 3 more runs for a 15-5 lead.

The four hits raised Allen’s batting average to .317 and his on-base percentage to .449. He has 20 hits and has scored 16 runs in 22 games. Allen is tied for second on the team with 9 stolen bases.

The Cobras improved to 8-7 in the South Atlantic League and 22-14 overall. Coker will host Claflin Wednesday at 2 p.m.
