West Bladen grad Clint Allen batted 2-3 and scored 2 runs Saturday for Coker College in the first game of a double-header at Newberry, but the Cobras were edged 7-6 in ten innings.

Allen led off the Coker third inning with a single to rightfield, advanced to third on a pair of bunts and dashed home on a fielder’s choice to put the Cobras ahead 1-0. Allen walked in the fourth inning but was left stranded at third base.

Newberry took a 6-4 lead into the top of the ninth, but Allen swatted a single to right and advanced to third on Bryson Conner’s single. A throwing error on Conner’s steal of second scored Allen, and a wild pitch plated Conner and tied the game 6-6.

A tenth inning double drove in the winning run for Newberry.

Allen knocked in a run Friday with a ninth-inning single, but Newberry won 8-2. In Monday’s 2-1 loss at Mars Hill, the Bladenboro native singled, walked and stole a base.
