Incumbent Clarkton Town Commissioner Lawrence McDouglad was declared the winner of the Clarkton Town Commissioner race. A coin toss broke the tie between incumbent Clarkton Town Commissioner Lawrence McDougald and challenger Jimmy Hudson Sr. On Tuesday morning.

The coin toss was performed following the vote canvass. Only Hudson was present for the coin toss.

Bladen County Board of Elections Director Cynthia Shaw went over the totals for each race with the board. She noted that two town commissioner seats in Tar Heel were filled with write-in candidates Sam Allen and Mike Underwood.
Board of Elections Chairman Bobby Ludlum asked if they had been notified.
“Both have accepted,” said Shaw.
Shaw told the board after the vote canvass there was a tie in Clarkton.
According to NC law, in a plurality election such as this one when a candidate receives the same number of votes the winner is determined by lot.
“It is the board’s call how you want to break the tie,” said Shaw.

“My position is doing a coin toss,” said Ludlum.
Ludlum told those gathered that heads would favor Hudson and tails would favor McDougald. The coin landed with the eagle side up meaning McDougald was declared the winner.
Hudson expressed his disappointment with the outcome. He said he was going to learn all he could to fight.
“I worked hard for this and now what it is there is nothing that can be done,” said Hudson.
He also told the board he understood their position.
