Delco, NC – Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Detectives concluded an eight month long investigation into narcotics activity in the Delco area of Columbus County. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office received numerous citizen complaints concerning the Evergreen Church Road and Chevrolet Drive areas in Delco. While conducting surveillance of these areas, Vice-Narcotics Detectives determined the male defendant in this case as a person of interest.
Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Detectives utilized available resources to further their investigation into the defendant’s illegal narcotics activities. Vice-Narcotics Detectives discovered that the defendant was traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, to pick up a large amount of marijuana to bring back to Columbus County to distribute. Vice-Narcotics Detectives waited for the defendant in Columbia, S.C. Once the defendant’s vehicle, a GMC Sierra truck, passed through Columbia, Vice-Narcotics Detectives followed it back to Columbus County.
A Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the vicinity of Haynes Lennon Highway. The defendant failed to stop for the Sergeant’s blue lights and siren and a chase ensued. During the pursuit, the defendant’s vehicle reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour and as much as 55 miles per hour over the posted speed limit in the city limits of Chadbourn. The vehicle turned onto Williams Road in Chadbourn. Shortly after turning onto Williams Road, it crossed the center line and collided with the ditch. The vehicle proceeded through the ditch into a corn field. The vehicle continued through the corn field, wrecking at the wood line at the back of the field. The defendant fled on foot into the woods, leaving behind his female passenger.
The female passenger, Tabor Eilene Moss, 20, of 300 Chevrolet Drive, Delco, was taken into custody and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Vice-Narcotics Detectives located a small bag of marijuana, three cell phones, and over $700.00 in cash. Moss was arrested and processed at the Columbus County Detention Center where she was incarcerated for the following charges: two counts of felony trafficking in marijuana. Her bond was set at $50,000 secured
The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9 assisted the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office with a search of the wooded area. During the search, detectives located a large duffel bag containing 25 pounds of marijuana. The search was called off after an extended period of time.
On May 3, 2018, the defendant, Michael Tyrone Brown, 35, of 300 Chevrolet Drive, Delco, was taken into custody by Columbus County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 410 near Williams Road. He was spotted walking in the area after he emerged from a swampy wooded area.
He was arrested and processed at the Columbus County Detention Center where he was incarcerated for the following charges:
1 count of Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
2 counts of Felony Trafficking in Marijuana
1 count of Misdemeanor Injury to Trees/Crops/Lands
Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign/ Flashing Red Light
Driving Left of Center
Fictitious/Altered Title/Registration Card/Tag
Driving While License Revoked
His bond was set at $60,000 secured
