County Commissioners Munn EMS Concerns  The Bladen County Board of Commissioners heard a complaint regarding the county’s EMS service from East Arcadia resident Horace Munn.

He opened his remarks by stating that he had come before board before to talk about the lengthy response times for EMS service in the East Arcadia area.

Munn said that since that time he has been told that the east end of Bladen County will receive better EMS service in the East Arcadia and Kelly area.

He told the board that instead of being stationed in East Arcadia, the ambulance is instead sitting at Elwell Ferry Road. Munn said that he was told the EMS vehicle would be housed at East Arcadia.

Munn explained that it is his understanding the EMS vehicle is supposed to rotate, depending on the shift, between being housed in East Arcadia and Kelly.

“Dr. Blanks had an accident recently and it took 45 minutes for her to be transported (to the hospital),” said Munn.

Munn also told the board that he has witnessed ADR (Acme-Delco Rescue) responding to calls on NC 87 corridor.

Commissioner Jimmie Smith said, “I don’t believe that.”

Commissioner Charles Ray Peterson added, “We’ve got the data on calls and times and it doesn’t  support you.”

After a rather contentious exchange, Munn asked the board to add more personnel to EMS and ensure the EMS vehicle it rotates between Kelly and East Arcadia.
