RIGA, Latvia – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) hosted more than 100 Members of Parliament and other officials from 28 nations for the 8th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum in Riga, Latvia.

“Our 8th forum brought together a diverse group of nations – including Egypt, Israel, and the Vatican – to discuss joint efforts to fight radical Islamic terrorism,” said Congressman Pittenger.   “In total, 28 countries heard from top financial crimes, cyber, Intelligence, and other experts regarding collaborative efforts to help defeat Islamic jihad.  We are grateful for our partners in government, financial institutions, and data security who participated in this important forum.”

Speakers at the 8th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum included Ināra Mūrniece (Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia); private sector experts from Bank of America, SAS, Barclays, and Ericsson; and representatives of the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and NATO.

Response to the forum was very positive, with representatives from seven countries inviting Congressman Pittenger to host similar forums in their country.

Congressman Pittenger serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, and Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
