WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) issued this statement after President Trump announced his decision to follow existing law and move the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem:

“Jerusalem has been Israel’s capital since the time of King David.  Jerusalem’s legislature and courts are in Jerusalem.  Why should we continue to pretend otherwise?” asked Congressman Pittenger.  “Would we be okay with other countries insisting our capital was somewhere other than Washington?  President Trump’s common sense decision is grounded in reality.”

Congressman Pittenger has traveled to Israel four times as a Member of Congress, meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres, and local leaders to discuss joint efforts to defeat radical Islamic terrorism.
