WASHINGTON – On Thursday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly formally rescinded President Obama’s “Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents” (DAPA) order, which had already been blocked by federal courts.

Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09), a strong supporter of legal immigration and law enforcement, had this reaction:

“America is a nation of laws.  Our illegal immigration problem is the result of President Obama and other government leaders failing to enforce our existing laws.  President Trump is sending a strong message that we will no longer tolerate that lack of enforcement.  The majority of Americans, who choose to follow and live their lives in accord with the law, and who do not support a pathway to citizenship, certainly applaud this decision.”

Congressman Pittenger was the first Member of Congress to participate in a Naturalization Ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Uptown Charlotte, and continues to attend as often as his schedule allows.  During the ceremonies, he welcomes America’s newest citizens and thanks them for following the legal immigration process.
