pittenger-voaCHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) had the unique experience of taking questions from viewers in China during a live broadcast Wednesday on Voice of America’s Chinese channel.

The live, 40-minute interview, broadcast in Mandarin, included questions and discussion on national security, terrorism, U.S.-China relations, and the need for increased human rights and religious freedom in China.

“A generation ago, Voice of America and Radio Free Europe were vital in supporting pro-democracy movements behind the Iron Curtain.  As our relationship with China becomes increasingly complex, and the Chinese people continue to suffer from a lack of freedom and basic human rights, we hope that programs like these will help inform and encourage those in China working to bring positive change in their country,” commented Congressman Pittenger.
