Congressman Robert Pittenger HeadshotCHARLOTTE – In response to media reports that Human Rights Campaign is pressuring the Federal Aviation Administration to withhold money from North Carolina over HB2, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) today announced he will introduce an amendment to block that threat.

“The Human Rights Campaign would do well to back off,” said Congressman Pittenger. “The continued threats from HRC, President Obama, and their radical allies are not the answer. Bully tactics alienate others and do not bring people together to find a solution.

“Our Founding Fathers developed a time-tested process for changing and updating laws through Congress and judicial oversight. My amendment to the Transportation appropriations bill will uphold that process by taking away the threat of withholding funding until this case is properly adjudicated.”

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 227-192 to approve Congressman Pittenger’s amendment to the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 5055) which would prohibit the Department of the Interior, Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from revoking funding previously awarded to North Carolina.

Congressman Pittenger will introduce a similar amendment when the Department of Transportation appropriations bill is voted on later this year.
