Rep. Robert Pittenger

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) voted to pass the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act (H.R. 3354), which funds government agencies for FY 2018.

“This is governing,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “For the first time in almost a decade, the House passed all twelve appropriations bills on time, responsibly funding government operations while also advancing key conservative reforms.”

Here are twelve key wins for the American people:

  1. Respects hardworking American taxpayers by eliminating dozens of duplicative, wasteful, or ineffective government programs.
  2. Increases funding for biomedical research at NIH by $1.1 billion, including Alzheimer’s and pediatric cancer research.
  3. No funding for Planned Parenthood, saving taxpayers $330 million.
  4. Supports rural communities by providing $2.6 billion for rural infrastructure, housing, and loans to help grow rural economies.
  5. Speeds up approval of generic drugs.
  6. Provides $1.6 billion for physical barrier construction along the southern border, fully funding President Trump’s request.
  7. Provides $7.3 billion for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund and $2.7 billion for grants to local first responders and other frontline initiatives.
  8. Funds the hiring of 500 new Border Patrol agents and 65 new immigration judicial teams to speed up immigration cases.
  9. Fights opioid abuse by enhancing DEA heroin enforcement, DEA Prescription Drug Diversion Control, and providing $103 million for treatment and prescription drug monitoring programs.
  10. Increases funding for cybersecurity and customer service at the IRS.
  11. Prohibits funding for abortion via the Federal Employee Health Benefits program.
  12. Blocks IRS from implementing Obamacare’s individual insurance mandate.

“We also saved hardworking American taxpayers nearly $20 billion dollars versus the same eight spending bills last year,” said Congressman Pittenger. “We must continue restoring fiscal sanity in Washington.”
