WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) voted to give states the freedom to redirect Title X funding away from Planned Parenthood and toward the much larger network of community health centers, which offer more comprehensive women’s health care services and outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics 20 to 1.

After the release of horrifying videos showing Planned Parenthood harvesting and selling the body parts of unborn babies last year, many states took steps to ensure Title X funds went to life-sustaining community health centers rather than Planned Parenthood. But in the closing days of his Administration, President Obama pushed through an eleventh hour rule to prevent states from eliminating abortion providers from Title X funds. Today’s resolution, which was co-sponsored by Congressman Pittenger, nullifies that rule and passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a bipartisan vote of 230-188.

“God’s gift of life is precious to us all. In His sacred Word, God tells us he knew us in our mother’s womb. As your Member of Congress, I will continue to fight for the unborn and support life affirming investments in women’s health,” Congressman Pittenger said.

In January, Congressman Pittenger sent a letter to President Trump, cosigned by 147 Members of Congress, to outline shared pro-life priorities, including defunding Planned Parenthood.
