CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) issued this statement after learning protestors pulled down a Confederate statue in Durham on Monday evening:

“The anarchy displayed in Durham should be condemned by all who cherish the rule of law and the spirit of Martin Luther King.  The despicable, reprehensible hatred displayed by white supremacists in Charlottesville has no place in America, but we cannot drive out that hate with more violence.”

Following the riots in Charlottesville, Virginia, Congressman Pittenger released this statement on Saturday:

“The hate and violence displayed in the Charlottesville riots which caused loss of life is reprehensible.  Those who perpetuated these actions should be held fully responsible and accountable.  We must be united as Americans, particularly at a time when so many countries and individuals around the world seek to cause us harm.”

Currently, Congressman Pittenger is in the Middle East with House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul, and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, working to expand international collaboration in the fight against radical Islamic terrorism and security challenges with Iran.
