Barnhill Contracting Company of Rocky Mount was awarded a $13.2 million contract to upgrade the intersection at NC 87 bypass and US 701 south of Elizabethtown earlier this year and construction is underway. The intersection will be upgraded from an intersection with a traffic light to an interchange.
Over 14,000 vehicles per day travel the roads, Construction is expected to be completed in September 2017. Motorist should expect minor delays as the construction progresses.
