There has been thousands and thousands of words written during more than 40 years with newspapers and web sites.
It means two things:
1) I’m really, really old.
2) those thousands and thousands of words can’t tell a story better than one action photo.
I’ve been fortunate to work with many photographers since starting at The Bladen Journal in 1979 and continuing at the Richmond County Daily Journal, The Fayetteville Observer and Bladen Online.
None have been better than capturing the moment in sports than Kenneth Armstrong.
There have been thousands of photos posted on Bladen Online over more than a dozen years that truly were worth a thousand words. Check out a few that often times set the scene better than any words.
It can be written that the soccer game was played on a rain-soaked field, but Kenneth’s photo can show you how wet it was.
The results from a track meet can be listed, but Kenneth’s photo can show you the effort given by the athletes.
A close play at the plate that may have saved the game can be described, but Kenneth’s photo shows you the tag was made.
The intensity of a semifinal game in the state basketball playoffs can be shown by one of Kenneth’s photos much better than a paragraph or two.
While he’ll appreciate the shoutout, he won’t like being the focus. Kenneth prefers that his photos take the credit. Anyone can snap a picture, but a photographer can capture the moment.
Kenneth Armstrong knows how to capture the moment and his work has made Bladen Online a much better product.
You can find his work at kenarmphoto.com. It’s worth checking out. And you won’t have to read a thousand words to do it.
