Shortstop Trea Turner signs an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He will be 40 years old at the end of the deal.

Shortstop Dansby Swanson is expected to leave the Atlanta Braves and soon sign a long-term multi-million contract most likely a bit less than Bogaerts’ deal.

In recent seasons, shortstops Francisco Lindor (New York Mets), Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego) and Corey Seager (Texas) signed $300 million-plus long-term deals.

Moral of the story: Unless your child can pound 62 home runs in a season like Aaron Judge (nine-year, $360 million deal with the New York Yankees), have Santa bring your kid a baseball, new glove, new bat and the ability to play shortstop, then go play as much as he desires.
