Larrell Murchison was on Tennessee’s active roster Sunday in the Titans’ 17-10 win against the Denver Broncos. It was the third straight game that the East Bladen High graduate had been elevated from the practice squad.

Murchison wasn’t credited with any tackles in his limited playing time, but was called for defensive holding in the second quarter.

The 6-foot-2, 297-pound lineman didn’t play in Tennessee’s first six games while assigned to the practice squad. He was on the field for 10 plays, seven on defense and three on special teams, and was credited with an assisted tackle in his season debut during the Titans’ 17-10 win at Houston on Oct. 30, then participated in four defensive plays and five special team plays during a 20-17 loss at Kansas City on Nov. 6.

Murchison is in his third year with the Titans after being selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft out of N.C. State. He played in 21 regular season games his first two seasons, including five starts in 2021. He was assigned to Tennessee’s practice squad at the end of this preseason.

It will be interesting to follow what happens next for Murchison since this was the third time that he had been elevated from the practice squad for a game this season. The NFL allows two practice squad players to be elevated to the active roster for game day, then revert back to the practice squad immediately following the game. A player can be elevated three times during the season and not count against the 53-player roster. After the third time, the practice squad player would have to be elevated to the 53-man roster before playing.

So, Tennessee has to put Murchison on the 53-player roster for him to play another game, keep him on the practice squad, or he can sign with another NFL team at any time while on the practice squad.

Whatever happens going forward with his football career, Bladen County is, and always will be, proud of its native son. Larrell Murchison has never forgotten his roots and folks in Bladen County will never stop pulling for his success.
