Spread the love

By Sonny Jones

Some news and notes about this and that found under the cushions of the couch:

• Is it better to be lucky than good? Appalachian State has a very good football team. Saturday in Boone, the Mountaineers were very lucky to beat Troy on a Hail Mary pass for the ages. What a finish! Don’t overlook the block by Kaedin Robinson that allowed Christian Horn to run untouched into the end zone.

• NASCAR has as much parity as its ever had. So far, a record-tying 19 different winners this season with seven races remaining following Chris Buescher’s victory Saturday night in Bristol. Now, if the sports can figure out a way to cut way down on the caution flags. Just too many.

• Love him or hate him, Phil Mickelson is correct. The PGA and LIV need to come together. Eventually, they will. The NBA-ABA, NFL-AFL and NHL-WHA did for the betterment of each sport.

• Boost The Boro Men’s and Women’s Softball Tournament: Friday-Saturday, Wateree Park, Bladenboro. Information: Penny Walters: 910-874-3559.

• Agriculture Scholarship Golf Tournament: Oct. 8, Shotgun start 10 a.m., Vineyard Golf at White Lake. Four-man Captain’s Choice. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Information: 910-247-6132.

• Who else is tired of reading headlines about marriage woes between Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen? Guess it gets clicks, but not interested and none of my business.
