A Council man plead guilty to statutory sex offense against a minor Monday in Bladen County Superior Court and was sentenced up to 21 years in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
John Wayne Parks, 58, of Railroad Street, was sentenced to between 166 months and 260 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections under the agreement with the state.
Parks was arrested in March 2015 following an investigation by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. The case began in December 2014 when a 14-year-old victim told authorities that she had been inappropriately touched in her genital area by Parks while the two were on a hunting trip in Bladen County, the District Attorney’s office said.
As part of the plea agreement, Parks will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years and be subject to satellite-based monitoring upon his release from custody.
