The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and dealt heard an update from Finance Director Lisa Coleman regarding segregation of duties.

Coleman introduced Tina Clark to the board and said Clark is classified as an auditing accounting technician. Coleman said the Clark’s duties include counting the cash drawers in various offices and making sure they reconcile with the records in the finance office.

Coleman said that Clark will also begin performing more daily audits and auditing anything that falls under accounts payable/receivable.

Bladen County Commissioners Chairman Charles Ray Peterson apologized to Coleman and those present for his remarks in an earlier meeting when the audit was presented. He said he did not understand what the auditor meant when he said the segregation of duties was discussed.

Coleman said she did contact the LGC (Local Government Commission) and learned that segregation of duties is an issue that is found in many local government audits due to the staffing issues often experienced there.

Coleman said that the measures being put in place by Clark should help with the segregation of duties issue.

In other business, the board met for one and one-half hours in a closed session to discuss a personnel matter.
