The Bladen County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight (Monday, February 19) at 6:30 p.m. and conduct a public hearing regarding a possible law making it illegal to hunt or discharge a firearm on, from, or across a state-maintained right-of-way or to retrieve dogs from a public road while in possession of a loaded firearm. The issue was brought to the board’s attention in January by Joe Britt, a resident of the Ammon community.

Britt told the board during the January meeting that hunting alongside the highway creates a dangerous situation for motorists. Concerns have also been expressed about safety for county residents who have homes located in the woods that are hidden from view from the highway.  The public hearing will allow Commissioners to receive public comments on the matter.

The board will also conduct a second public hearing to receive public comments regarding the proposed 2018-19 budget priorities.

Other items on the agenda include as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month proclamation, the presentation of the 2016-17 financial audit by Bryon Scott, the and the financial dashboard as presented by Finance Director Lisa Coleman. Interim Health and Human Services Director Wayne Raynor will present the board a new sliding fee schedule, a renewal and amendment with East Carolina University, request approval of a Blue Cross and Blue Shield grant opportunity, and consider rescinding the flex policy.

Bladen County Animal Control Board will request a change to their Code of Ordinances as it relates to Rabies vaccinations and control.

The board will make an appointment to the Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority Board and the White Lake Planning and Zoning Board.

The board will be asked to approve a one-time donation toe the Cape Fear Valley-Bladen County Health Care Foundation.

Under consent items, the board will consider approving the agenda, minutes of the February 5th regular meeting, budget amendments, county attorney invoices totaling $2,025, revised Bladen Area Rural Transportation System (BARTS) update to its Drug and Alcohol policy, Tax Releases for January 2018, and adopt a Teen Dating Violence Awareness proclamation
