Bladen County Opens Shelters Ahead of Tropical Storm Debby
In preparation for the impending Tropical Storm Debby, Bladen County has announced the opening of several emergency shelters. These shelters will be available starting today, August 7th, at 6:00 p.m. The following locations have been designated as shelters:
– West Bladen High School: 1600 NC 410 Hwy, Bladenboro
– East Arcadia Primary School: 21451 NC Hwy 87 E, Riegelwood
– Centerville Baptist Church: 18577 NC Hwy 53 E, Kelly
Residents seeking refuge in these shelters are reminded of the following guidelines to ensure a safe and orderly environment:
– The use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or vaping products is strictly prohibited.
– Weapons are not allowed on the premises.
– Cots and blankets will be provided, but attendees should bring their own pillows.
– The West Bladen shelter is the only pet-friendly location, accommodating domesticated cats and dogs. Pet owners must bring their own pet food.
– Meals will be provided at the shelters; however, outside food is not permitted.
– Individuals with special needs should be accompanied by their caregivers.
– Necessary items such as medication, oxygen, and hygiene products should be brought to the shelter.
– Electronic devices are permitted, and residents are encouraged to bring chargers.
– Adults are advised to bring games, books, and activities to entertain small children.
Joey Coleman, the Director of the Bladen County Office of Emergency Services, emphasizes the importance of community safety during this storm. “The protection and safety of our citizens is always our top priority,” he stated.
