DJ Mason Keys Campbell from Bladen CountyWest Bladen grad D. J. Mason recorded his second straight double-double Monday night with 16 points and 13 rebounds that led Campbell to a 66-65 non-conference victory over visiting Virginia Military Institute.

Mason popped in a couple of early jump shots to put the Camels ahead 6-4 early, then added a lay-up and 2 free throws to finish the first half with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

VMI led 35-24 at halftime and stretched the lead to 48-30, before Mason bombed in a 3-pointer with 15 minutes left in the game. The 6-6 senior hit 3 free throws and dropped in a lay-up to trim the margin to 60-51 with 6:34 remaining .

The 22-7 closing run by the Camels was capped by Chris Clemons game-winning 3-point shot with 4 seconds left.  Mason pulled down the defensive rebound with 14 seconds remaining that secured possession for Clemons’ winning shot.

The Camels improve to 4-2 and will return to action on Dec. 9 at Charlotte.
