D. J. Mason Fires In 18 For Campbell

West Bladen grad D. J. Mason lit up the scoreboard with 18 points and 7 rebounds, but his Campbell Camels fell victim to a 20-3 Radford second-half run that produced a 72-55 victory for the Highlanders Thursday night.

Mason connected on 9 of 16 shots from the floor and contributed 2 steals, an assist and a blocked shot.

The 6-6 junior threw in a jumper and a lay-up for the first two Campbell baskets. Another Mason lay-up kept the Camels within 23-19, but Radford scored the final 9 points of the half to lead 32-19 at intermission.

Mason worked the paint for four lay-ups in the first 7 minutes of the second half to lead a 17-8 spurt that sliced the Radford lead to 40-36 with 13:27 remaining to play.

A Mason lay-up accounted for the only Campbell basket during the decisive Radford run.

The Camels will host UNC-Asheville Saturday at 4 p.m.
