D. J. Mason Grabs 10 Rebounds For Campbell
West Bladen grad D. J. Mason just missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds Saturday, but his Campbell University Camels lost 69-65 to UNC-Asheville in Big South Conference action at Buies Creek.
Mason also dished out 3 assists and blocked 2 shots. The Clarkton native turned a Reco McCarter assist into a lay-up, then sank two foul shots with 2:18 left in the half to give the Camels a 33-25 lead. The Bulldogs closed the gap to 35-32 at halftime.
UNC-Asheville built a 49-42 lead midway the second half, but Mason’s lay-up off of a Troy Harper assist pulled Campbell to within 55-54 with 6:26 left to play.
Mason added a lay-up and a free throw with 1:53 left, but UNC-Asheville still led 63-58 and held on for the victory.
Campbell travels to Presbyterian Thursday night for a 7 p.m. game.
