D_J_MasonWest Bladen grad D. J. Mason has been named to the pre-season All-Big South Conference second team in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Last year Mason averaged 11.2 points per game which placed him No. 20 among Big South scoring leaders. The Clarkton native was sixteenth in the Big South with 5.2 rebounds per game, and tenth in blocked shots with 0.94 per game.

Mason connected on 50. 3 per cent of his shots from the floor and scored in double figures in 21 of 32 games. The 6-6 senior started 24 of the Camels 32 games and played in all of them.

Campbell head coach Kevin McGeehan was quoted on www.gocamels.com saying, “I think D. J. is poised to have a great year. Obviously, he has proven that he can do it.  He was really productive as a sophomore and had a very good junior year. His next step is to score a little more, rebound a little more and become more consistent.”

McGeehan continued on www.gocamels.com saying, “He (D.J.) has the ability to do different things.  He has good strength, can score a variety of ways inside and can step out and make a shot.  His passing is one of the attributes that not everyone notices, but D.J. has the ability to fill the entire stat sheet.”

Mason and the Camels will open the season Friday at 8 p.m. at home against Montreat.
