West Bladen grad D. J. Mason pumped in 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds Saturday as his Campbell Camels rolled to a 101-82 basketball victory over the Citadel in Buies Creek.
Mason made 7 of 10 shots from the field, dished out 3 assists and had 2 steals. The 6-6 senior tossed in a jump shot for the game’s first basket.
A 15-4 Citadel run was stopped by a Mason lay-up with 14:30 left in the first half. Mason dropped in two more lay-ups as the Camels rallied to within 21-20 midway the half.
Another Mason lay-up 5:14 before intermission pushed the Campbell lead to 37-27. The Camels led 47-38 at halftime. The Clarkton native turned a Chris Clemons pass into a lay-up, then slammed in a dunk for an 82-68 lead with 5:10 remaining in the game.
The Camels improved to 7-3 overall and will host College of Charleston Tuesday at 2 p.m.
