DJ MasonWest Bladen grad D.J. Mason scored 11 points Saturday, but his Campbell Camels dropped their second straight close decision 55-52 to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

Mason who also finished with 4 rebounds and 2 assists slammed in a dunk two minutes into the game then drilled a 3-pointer midway the half that edged the Camels in front 13-12.

In the final minute of the half, Mason popped in a jump shot then beat the buzzer with a lay-up that trimmed the Liberty lead to 29-27 at intermission.

Another Mason lay-up with 5:26 left in the game pulled the Camels to within 46-45, but the Flames answered with a 6-1 spurt to claim the victory.

Wednesday night the Camels were edged 71-68 at Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs. Mason tossed in 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had a blocked shot and a steal.

Campbell is now 2-4 in Big South play and 8-8 overall. The Camels will host Longwood University Thursday at 7 p.m.
