With his coaches, family and friends in attendance, West Bladen’s Damarius Robinson signed a letter of intent Thursday to play football next season with North Carolina Wesleyan University in Rocky Mount.

“It’s close to home, and everything there seemed to fit with what I wanted,” said Robinson, who plans to major in sports management.

“We visited there in December, and he just seemed to fall in love with the campus,” said West Bladen Coach Stanley Williams. “He also developed a special bond with Assistant Coach Dwight Sutton, who is their recruiting coordinator for this area.”

Robinson led the Knights in rushing with 514 yards and averaged 6.1 yards per carry and 86 yards per game last season. The 5-10, 248-pound fullback ran for 6 touchdowns and four 2-point conversions, and also caught 7 passes for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Coach Williams shared that Wesleyan is looking at Robinson as a fullback. “They are getting a great football player,” said Williams. “He can definitely play at the next level.”

The Battling Bishops posted a 4-4 USA South Conference record last season and were 4-6 overall.
