On Monday, Veterans Day, the Robert Curtis Hester Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 99 observed the national holiday with their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Bladenboro Historical Building. The event is organized each year to acknowledge the service and sacrifices made by our country’s Veterans.

West Bladen High School JROTC presented the colors. DAV Commander David Brown welcomed all in attendance.

Dublin Peanut Festival Queen, Alyssa Bell sang the National Anthem to honor the occasion. “That young lady gave a beautiful performance,” Commander David Brown stated.

Retired Navy Captain Mrs. Brenda Williams was the guest speaker. “She is very remarkable with a high rank,” Commander Brown added. “We were very glad to have her speak.”

The local DAV chapter is trying to raise funds to repair their building in Elizabethtown. The building is currently in need of a new roof.

The members are going to raffle off a 270 Rifle from Allen Brothers Hunting Preserve. The drawing for the raffle will take place at the Pork & Beats Festival (weather permitting), according to Commander Brown.

If you would like to make a donation for the repairs to the DAV building you may contact Commander David Brown or Treasurer Neil King. Checks made payable to Robert Curtis Hester Chapter 99 may be mailed to 502 South Cypress Street Elizabethtown, NC 28337.

The Robert Curtis Hester Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 99 will meet again on Tuesday, November 19th at the VFW Building located at 109 Hill Street in Elizabethtown.
