The United Way of Bladen County will hold their annual Day of Caring event tomorrow (Friday) beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown.

“We are in need of volunteers to build three additional ramps and we need volunteers to help with transporting and setting up the ramps on the Day of Caring,” said United Way of Bladen County’s Barbara Knight.

In addition to constructing wheelchair ramps, some of the day’s activities will include delivering more than 500 gift bags for the residents in Bladen County nursing homes.  Also, the Division Of Aging and Bladen Baptist Association have been partnering with Carolina Cross Roads and the Baptist Men teams at Dublin First Baptist and Clarkton First Baptist in building wheelchair ramps to specifications that will be transported to work stations on the Day of Caring.

Knight added teams of volunteers will also be preparing backpacks of food for children which will be delivered to the Bladen County Schools. She said people can continue to drop off canned food for the backpacks for students at the Cape Fear Farmers Market on Friday. Items needed for the backpacks include pop-top canned foods, instant grits or oatmeal, Pop Tarts, juice boxes, breakfast bars, etc.

Items needed for gift bags for senior adults include writing pads, pens, combs, and hygiene items.

Volunteers are encouraged to arrive at the Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown by 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 3.
