Bladen County business owners may qualify for COVID-19 related expense grants. Maria C. Edwards, NCCCC, Clerk to the Board/Assistant to the County Manager with the County of Bladen, released an application for Bladen County Small Business Grants in July. The grants are available for businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19 related expenses.

The purpose of the County of Bladen Economic Development Emergency Local Small Business Funding Program organized by the Bladen County Commissioners is to assist Bladen County-based small businesses experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19 protection expenses.

Chuck Heustess, Director of Bladen County Economic Development, listed expenses that are, and are not, covered by the grant funding opportunity for small businesses.

The program is set up to provide funding to small businesses for items already purchased. These items include PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), masks, or gloves, cleaning supplies, plexiglass, facility renovation to comply with CDC guidelines, sanitizing products, such as a UV light, or a professional sanitizing company’s charges.

“Those kinds of things are eligible,” Heustess said.

Business expenses that are not available for grant funding are things such as payroll, rent, loss of income, and utilities are not eligible.

“If it is a normal part of your business, and normal expenses, it is not eligible for the grant funding,” Heustess stated.

Bladen County-based businesses that are interested in the Emergency Local Small Business Funding Program should complete an application, submit a W-9, and collect the required documents such as receipts for Personal Protective Equipment and invoices. The invoices and receipts are required for funding.

The deadline for submitting the application is September 1, 2020. Applications will be accepted for approval on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.

Submission of application and adherence to stated guidelines does not guarantee funding.

There is a $2,500 maximum limit for the grants. Applications will be accepted for approval on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications may be faxed to 910-645-2293, emailed to edc@bladenco.org, or mailed to:
