Governor Cooper proclaimed October as Disability Employment Awareness Month, recognizing more than 1.3 million North Carolinians who have a disability. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Disability Employment Awareness Month and the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), celebrating the progress made while recognizing the struggle for equal access and inclusion is ongoing. North Carolina celebrates the value and talent that people with disabilities bring to our communities and encourages residents to raise awareness about disability employment issues.
